Master OneNote Tags to Supercharge Your Note-Taking
If you’re using Microsoft OneNote to capture ideas, meeting notes, or project plans, you might be missing out on one of its most powerful features: tags. Tags help you organize, prioritize, and retrieve information quickly—especially when your notebooks start to fill up.
Why Tags Matter
Tags act like visual markers that make your notes more actionable. Whether you're flagging a follow-up item, highlighting a key point, or tracking a question, tags let you scan and sort your notes with ease.
How to Use Tags in OneNote
Highlight the text you want to tag.
Navigate to the Home tab and click the Tags dropdown.
Choose from built-in tags like:
✅ To Do
⭐ Important
❓ Question
📌 Remember for Later
You can also create custom tags to match your workflow.
Search by Tag
OneNote allows you to search across all notebooks by tag. Just click the Find Tags button on the Home tab, and you’ll see a summary pane with all your tagged items grouped by tag type or section.
Real-World Example
Imagine you’re in a weekly team meeting. You jot down notes and tag action items with “To Do,” questions with “Question,” and key decisions with “Important.” Later, you can pull up all your “To Do” tags to create a task list or review all “Questions” before your next meeting.
🔍 Pro Tip: Use the “To Do” tag to create interactive checklists that sync across devices—perfect for tracking progress on the go.
